XBOX 360 - FAQ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a small FAQ for this forum on the 360. If you think anything should be added then feel free and post. Possibly sticky this to help members new to the 360 phenomenon.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FINDING A 360!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Help I cant find a 360 in any of the shops?
- Check out http://www.xbox360searcher.com/buying.aspx
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do I need a hard drive for backwards compatibility?
- Simple answer is yes you do. When you insert an original game and you are connected to live, the 360 will connected to live and will download the reuired files for backwards compatibility. If your not connected to live you can download the files and burn a disc with which you can then update the 360.
The files can be downloaded here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/8/a/58a10dbc-9445-4eed-83d5-22f8ad8ee855/default.zip
or if you dont own a cd burner or live, ask for a free disc here: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/backwardscompatibility.htm#order

CHIPPING/MODDING/HACKING
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is there a modchip for the 360?
- NO! There is not a modchip like that found in the orignal xbox. This is generally down to the higher security levels the system posseses. There is however a firmware flash which allows the playing of backups, read on.
When will a modchip be available for the 360?
- Who knows? Maybe not ever!
Where can i check for the latest 360 developments?
- Check out www.xbox-scene.com or www.xboxhacker.net
Can i play backups on the 360?
- Yes you can with the firmware hack
How can i flash the firmware on my 360?
- Alot of people can do this for you including myself. Check out the Chipping Services. If you want to have a go yourself, i suggest some deep reading at www.xbox-scene.com and on their forums.
What drives support the firmware hack?
- Samsung-Toshiba with firmware version MS25 and MS28 (More commonly reffered to as just the "Samsung Drive")
- Hitachi-LG with firmware versions 36,46,47,59,78 (More commonly reffered to as just the "Hitachi Drive")
What drives do not support the firmware hack
- Philips Drives are the only drives that cant be flashed but these are extremely rare and i havent even heard of anyone on these forums managing to pick one up.
What are the latest firmware versions?
- Samsung - Xtreme v5.2A and v5.2B
- Hitachi 36,46,47,59 - Xtreme v2.3 Stealth
- Hitachi 78 - Maximus Toolbox v3.0
Will these firmwares play all my backups?
- All these firmwares will play all your backups that you can purchase of DW or download. Just simply put the disc in and play.
What are these chips that retailers are selling for the 360.
- These chips allow you to keep your original firmware whilst having a hacked firmware on the chip. These chips are a waste of time as the firmware on the chips wont support any of the backups you find round here. The point of disabling the chip is also irrelevant as MS cant detect the latest hacked firmwares anyway!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BACKUPS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it safe to play on live with backups?
- Yes it is at the moment.
What type of media do i use for 360 backups?
- DVD+R Dual Layer
What dvd-burners do your recommend to burn backups?
- The Pioneer drives seem to the best, if you have an NEC drive then bad luck as most of these drives struggle to burn 360 games. Therefore any Pioneer drive from the 108,109,110 or 111.
What media do you suggest to burn backups?
- This is an awkward question as different people manage to get different success with different media. The general consensus though is that these are the best media below, ranked from the top.
1. Vertabatim
2. Traxdata
3. Datasafe/CMC/Ricoh/RiDisc
Generally though its, "You get what you pay for", hence Verbatim are the most expensive!
What software do you recommend to burn backups?
- I would only recommend using either CloneCD or ImgBurn. A good tutorial for using ImgBurn can be found below.

HARDWARE (Controllers, Remotes etc..)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can i use any of my old xbox hardware on the 360?
- The simple answer is no for most items at this current time. The memory card, controllers, remotes, power cable, and any of the AV cables cannot be used with the 360. The only item that is is the headset as it shares the same sort of jack.

-To connect the Wireless Controller to the Xbox 360 console, follow these steps: (cheers gram333)
1. Press and hold down the Xbox Guide button until the controller turns on. The Xbox Guide button is the round button with the green "X" near the center of the controller.
2. Make sure that the Xbox 360 console is turned on. If the console is not turned on, press the power button. The power button is the large round button on the Xbox console.

3.Install Windows Media Connect.
4.Follow the simple on screen instructions selecting the files you wish to share! Simple eh?
