Need help........Task Manager not working

I seem to have picked up a virus/worm similar to the blaster worm
but it has also stopped task manager from working, when I press ctrl-alt-del
task manager appears on screen briefly then vanishes,it also wont allow me to run windows update & I got error messages when trying to load a new av program . Has anyone any ideas as to what this is and how to get rid. I have tried FixBlast but it didnt find anything.........Help Sad

Thanks for the reply I tried safe mode and task manager worked but there was nothing sinister in there. Managed to load a patch that fixed the windows update problem. But when I came out of safe mode task manager hid again and so does regedit. Anyone got any other ideas or should I use plan B switch off scream and reach for beer Sad

its probably a virus?
I had a very similar problem ages ago.
I had norton a/v installed and it did not pick up anything. I installed Fsecure a/v instead and it found loads and also sorted the problem out.
