hello peeps,
i have been asked to make a forum for a family member for a karate forum he wants to set up for his club.
1st prob is i can not be arsed to go about doing one from scratch, i have done abit of html etc etc and done a few bits and bobs in the past, but what im looking at doing is sorting one out a free online as seen a few that do it and then if possible getting it all up and running then maybe if i can buy a domain then they can have it for there selfs without having it for free online, where the host can keep a eye on whats going on if you know what i mean, the ones i have seen you need to buy points to have a domain for so long etc, so its never your own if you get me so is this pos?
if it is possible what is a good place to get a forum started up for free? then be able to buy a domain for it etc for them and then its theres with out all the hassle, of it being watched etc which as im aware most do online.

I can point you in the right direction - i co-own a hosting company.
I'd recommend either Invision as stated above or my preferred free forum choice is phpBB - you can download free from www.phpbb.com - as for a domain name i'm unsure what you mean by the whole points thing to be honest, the thing with phpBB is although it is free you would need web hosting for the hosting of it - it's very very simple to setup - this forum is actually using it too.
My company offers a basic hosting plan that would fulfill your needs of a forum for just 1.99 a month - just drop me a PM if it's something you'd be instrested in mate and i'll be happy to get things going for you and can also assist in setting up your phpBB installation, I'm off to Bulgaria for a week today though so won't be online till next Wednesday.

hi graig that would be great if you could point me in the right direction.
what im after doing for them is getting a forum pretty much like this one same lay out etc color ranks and all that with no banner ads as you get on most free ones but must be a phpBB forum, so im looking at getting a forum which is phpbb2 with the options of getting own domain and hosting it would be great also if some way it would have a chatroom also like this forum.

what i mean by points is some forums that are free you need to donate money etc to then gain pionts which you can then get a domain from them for a month but really want to host it and have my own domain if at all pos
