can the argon chip be updated via dvd?

No you need an external writer that has a wire leading to the chip. then you connect that writer to the pc and update it by running a program on the pc.

Actually I was somewhat wrong. The Argon on a D2C board needs the external writer. For newer wii's there is a different firmware that does support updates via DVD. Sorry for the confusion.

Actually your still sorta wrong...

Early Argons without SPI chip could only be updated via injectus programmer. Newer Argons with SPI chip can update the SPI chip ONLY by DVD or the main Actel flash by injectus.
