As a present for my daughter graduating i'm taking her to egypt at end of september. Has anyone been recently and got their visa at the airport in Egypt. Have read you can buy the visa when you get there. Just wondering how easy it is. Also anyone recomend any excursions apart from cairo/luxor. Thanks for any info.

only need it if your travelling a long distance from your resort...regardless what your told by reps once there...ignore the BIG queue for em and go straight to your transfer coach save you a few quid too
went a couple of year back to sharm el sheik..sound holiday

Thanks for reply m8. Also going to Sharm. We are at least going to do Cairo so from what i've read cant get away with free visa. As you said will prob just have to join the long queue. Just wanted to know if its straightforward at the airport.

You need a visa if you intend to go anywhere out of sharm.
when you are on the plane they give you a form to fill out.
when you get into the airport you que up give your passport over with the form.
you then go get your bags and get on the coach, where your rep comes onto the coach with your passport and you pay him/her.
it was really easy.
we went quad biking in the desert, snorkeling in ras mohamed and to cairo by road.
all very cheap

Thanks for info m8. We're staying at Dreams Beach. Got really good deal. Dont think we will do cairo by road!! Will pay extra and fly. Going to try to do Cairo,Luxor and a snorkling trip. Seen a good one with camel ride snorkling and lunch with bedhouins. Have also been recomended the night trip into the desert.

Cairo is a shithole, go and see the Pyramids in Giza and the Egyptian Museum is a must too, and then get the hell out of there.

do yourself a favour and leave out Luxor, only go there when you have 4 - 7 days available as it will take this long to see the sights around there plus another day to get down to Abu Simbel ( a must see!!!)
We went on a cruise down the nile from luxor and then needed another week at the beach to rest.
Fantastic place!!!

Thanks for the advice. For some reason i am not getting post notification.
I am at the moment looking at a 2 day trip. Day 1 in Luxor staying overnight then to Cairo next morning.Therefore will have more time in Luxor. Always the way wish we'd booked longer.
Everything Kaytutt said is included in the 2 day itinerary. Light show at Karnak Temple instead of pyramids.

The light show at Karnak Temple is good too, you'll enjoy it You walk through the temple during the show, very atmospheric
