 blu ray and sony 350

hi all,a mate has 8 blu ray back up films on dual layer discs,but his new sony s350 player shows them as a split screen 2 pictures half a screen each.the left pic is ok the other is like black and white.will this be a settings prob.thankyou for any advice and help.
