Electricity Bill

Hey guys,
I've just recieved a bill from Npower between 10.01.08 to 16.04.08 for £1804.01, surely this is a mistake? I live in a small 1 bed appartment and use only 1 heater! I heard prices have gone up but this is ridiculous non? Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated

Cheers as always

I always remember my first bill in the house that I'm in now.

We'd just upgraded to quite a large house, but thought... £1000 for three months Shock

Previous house was £200 a quarter.

I queried it and was told that they'd miscalculated it. Something about cubic m and m or something similar.

new bill was £300 Smile

Check if any of neighbors have tapped your supply to heat their cannabis factory.

Either that or check the meter vs the reading they are claiming on the bill.

Obviously wrong, but had experience last year of Electric Bill doubling one Quarter, rang help (E.ON) and they were fine about it and given them the correct meter readings and received amended bill couple of weeks later. Meter turned out to be faulty.

Best thing is to talk to them about it, they get this all the time.

What sort of heater have you been using?

Electric fan heaters use loads of electricity Sad

I pay £50 per month for the eclectric & they adjust it at the end of the year. I live in a 4 bedroom house & there are 4 of us.
I would have thought that your monthly bill should not have exceeded £30 per month as you have one electric heater where as we gas central heating.
Chase them up.

If this is a first bill then they could be charging you for the people who used to live there before you.

They would have to come into your house and be after the meter for it to make an effect on your electric useage Very Happy if next door was stealing the electric it would be from the main cable well before your meter so theres no need to worry Embarassed

I switched over from a pre payment meter to a direct debit scheme in March 2007 which I used to use about £15 per week in cards.

Initially I paid £60 per month for approx 6 months and then it went up to £132 per month. I had a bill last month just short of £6000!

Swalec said I had a spell from November to March when I was averaging 250 units a day!!!!

Since the bill arrived I have been keeping an eyes on the meter and it averages about 40 units a day.

Swalec have checked the meter ehich passed it's test and have now fitted a 'check meter' along side my existing one to confirm it is working ok.

I wouldn't mind but I live in a 3 bedroom ex council house, use gas to heat and cook (not that the heating is ever on)!

I just hope this meter proves a fault or it looks like I will have to pay it.
