Laptop Question

Do you think the below laptop would be fine for surfing the internet?

http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/electric/computers/1/1

Is linux the same as windows roughly and do you think the 128mb ram could be upgraded and would it be the normal type laptop ram? Thanks

Can not comment on the laptop , but , my son downloaded the new version of linux called Unbuntu , and you can try it from booting from cd , before proper install and i was impressed , it installed my printer r200 and it worked open office was compatable with files i saved in microsoft office, the cd burner worked , the dvd player worked with drivers i was able to download with no effort , so too the music player , speakers worked , i plugged in bluetooth adapter my n95 phone was connected, a wireless belkin adapter worked no drivers to load, a 2 gig flash drive worked , i could go on ........this has operating system has come on in leaps and bounds , i tried it 3 years back and didn't like it ,the difference now is amazing...

well like i said its a free download and a free operating system , you can run it from cd , without making any changes to your system and see if its what you require, or not,,,, So no harm done .................Plus he asked if it was ok for surfing , well it has firefox installed and it works ok .............

Dunno about upgrading ram yourself but you can order it direct from manufacturer with 256mb ram

If this is anything like the Asus Eee pc - whihc to me it looks like, then its perfect for surfing the web

With the linux installed YOU DO NOT NEED A LOT OF RAM (sorry for shouting but that IS an important point).

We use them in work (the Asus ones) for email checking and web browsing. All you need to do is get a Memory stick or SD card etc to use as a storage medium to save files etc if desired.

Again if like the Asus Eee PC then you can play MP3s, sotre and view photos etc etc without problem.

Battery life will be 2 - 3 hours in comparision with the various incarnations of the Asus one
