ZXR400 vs. GSXR400 (best 400cc Motorbike)
All,
wanted some advice, i am going to buy my first motorbike and i have been doing some reading this afternoon. (total novice)
I have now decided on the two most likley contenders.
The first is a Kawasaki ZXR400 (which is sitting in first place at the moment), and the other is a Suzuki GSXR400, both bikes look good and the reviews i have read say they are as reliable as each other. (please note i have not seen any of them in the flesh as this is my inital research - they may turn out to be crap..)
What i want to ensure is that i have the one which is cheaper to maintain (e.g. part availability) and to work on (basically easyest to strip and repair).
I have seen both the bike sell for around £1000-1500 on autotrader for a decent condition one, and the insurance for me looks about the same (give or take (£60).
If anyone has had these bikes i would be intrested to know what it feels like owning one. I would be using it mostly at the weekends with the odd commute to work here and there.
If there are any common faults, which i need to look out for that would be nice to know, as i will be walking in buying it blind.
I am not sure of service history on bikes (are they the same as cars?), and if it has any relevenace on the up keep on the bike (basically should i buy one without it?).
any advice would be very welcome and any other modles or makes that i may need to consider. _________________ Da only fool dat ya foolin iz a fool dat iz you

Kwak was nice in it's time but def the GSX and as everyone has said try and push to the 600cc. I had a ZXR400 and chopped in for a GSX600 and the lost money doing it. You might as well push yourself and get the 600 and be happier in the long run. And then trade it against a Bigger Bike like my Hayabusa

As per above, go for the 600 or even bigger,
I passed my test last sepetmber. Had bought a yamaha R6 a few weeks earlier. January this year (4 months after passing test) i bought a brand new gsx-r 1000 as the 600 wasnt quick enough.
Im now looking at going even bigger with the ducati 1098r..
the gsxr 1000 is around 164bhp where as the 1098r is 180bhp or 186bhp with the suplied race kit on.
And this is only after having my licese for less then a year...
Morale of the story, Take the above advice and go bigger lol
I find bigger bikes (as in bigger engines) are also easier to ride.
