Hi all,
My lad has just left school and is starting a job next week and wants to know how much he will be taking home after tax/national insurance deductions. Is there a website around that will automatically calculate it if you put in hourly rate etc or can someone give me a quick guide please??

Obviously he will be on minimum wage as he is only 16 which is £3.40ph I think and he will be working 40hrs p/w.

If ayone can help me out I would really appreciate it.

if his tax code is 543l take home pay will be £128.60

Do you know if £3.40 is the minimum wage for him as although he is 16, he is still classed as at school until the end of summer (end of August) so could the employer feasibly pay him a lesser rate until that time??

I'm only asking because he reckons the guy who interviewed him said he would be taking home approxmately £370pm for working 40hrs (including every other weekend) and this works out at around £2.30ph which is really bad!!!

what crap rates,this minimum wage business is a load of old shat...more often than not the 16 year olds are doing as much if not more than somebody a bit older than them who does half as much and gets paid nearly twice as much...wheres the incentive mr brown!!!

yeah was on £5 an hour when i was 16 as a KP was at school doin 20ish hours a week and was cash in hand. Then i got into an apprenticeship and apparently the National Minimum wage doesnt apply so was getting £1.75 an hour and they wouldnt send me college so they got told where to stick that. Now at uni aged 21 and get £7.50 ph doin assistant AV technician job. Think i pay around 20% TAX when i do a 40Hr month
