Moving a light switch...

In my living room we have two light fixtures with seperate switches. One of which is in a terrible position down by my ankles far from the door. So how can I move it or join it into the other switch? Would it result in my ripping up a wall or two of plaster?!

Im a little confused with your post is it a light fitting or a switch you want to move, anyway which ever best thing to do is turn power off open it up and see which way cables go more than likely they come down the wall so if you want to move the switch up carefully chisel the wall out where you want the new switch and pull wire back up if you can do this, if you cant you will need to pull the wire into floor space make off into a junction box and use same type and size wire to extend the wire to the new location.
