Making Multis for Dummies

PLEASE DO NOT PM ME FOR CRACKS/SERIALS OR WHERE TO GET THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS Shock

Also if you have a question please read this whole tutorial before hassling me with questions already clearly answered, I know this guide is for "Dummies" but don`t take the p*** Confused

UPDATED: 31st Dec 2006
-----------------------------

I`ve been trying to find out, like lots of other people on here, the simplest way to make a multi. Sure, there are lots of tutorials that don`t work or are too complex or use 17 different programs, its ridiculous.

For some reason the propeller-heads will not tell us knob-heads what to do.

After a lot of messing about I did finally make my first multi using just two simple programs, and I was well chuffed.

Most of it was automatic, and best of all it was fast, and I was well surprised at the quality maintained.

So I thought I would share this simple process.
------------------------------

At first glance there seems to be a lot to do, there isn`t really, and it`s all quite straight forward.

I have named each step so you can`t go wrong (yeah right).

Our target is to fit 3 retail quality movies onto one DVD disc with a menu.

These are the programs required:

CloneDVD2 (I used elby clonedvd2 v2.8.5.1 for this tutorial, if u using diff version there may be differences )
TmpGenc DVDAuthour V1.6

Lets do it:
------------------------------
1: Select 3 films to squash onto 1 DVD

Note:
My first problem here was CloneDVD2 stopped with an error whenever I used it on a film from my DVD-Rom drive. I have the 3 Harry Potter retails and thought they would make a nice test multi, but they all came up with an "unknown error". There was no protection on them of course and
there was no errors on the discs Hmm.

So I resorted to dvd files that I had just converted from some xvids I had downloaded on to my hard drive and they went thru no problem.

A note on quality. If you put rubbish in, you will get worse rubbish out.
Best bet is to use retail quality movies, as the quality loss is hardly noticable.

One other thing to bear in mind is that your 3 films should be all NTSC or all PAL or when you get to use DVDAuthor it wont allow it. If you have a mixture you can use divx2dvd or similar to re-encode to NTSC or PAL but sometimes the results suck bottom big time.)
----------------------------

2: Squash em

Our first mission is to squash the 3 movies so they will fit onto a 4.7gig dvd, most films of retail quality will
come out around 2 to 2.5 gig so we have to squish them so the 3 total less than 4.7 gig not forgetting to
leave some room for our menu.

There are other programs that can do this but the one that worked for me, and was very simple to use was
elby clonedvd2.

Let`s do it:

* Load up CloneDVD2

* Click on "Copy DVD Titles"
(note the big red "X" I painted on the screenshot)

*Click the file selector and select the Video_TS folder of the first of your 3 films

* uncheck any rubbish you dont want, like menus etc.

* Select the output size to 1400MB as 3 of these will =4.2 Gig leaving some spare room for our multi menu, you could push for 1500MB but it will be tight.

* Click Next

* Check/Uncheck audio streams, sub-titles whatever. Click Next

* Click on "DVD Files"

* Use the file selector to tell CloneDVD2 where to place the DVD folder (use a hard drive with at leat 5gig free.)

* Tick "Add Video_TS Directory to path" (Note the blue "X")
* Click "GO"

Once completed click the "Restart" button and repeat the process for your other 2 films, dont forget to choose a diffent save path for each film before you click "GO" at the end.

We should now have 3 films of the correct size ready to be authored.
------------------------------------------------

3: Author Em

* Load up DVDAuthor

* Create A New Project

* Click on "Add DVD Video" Select your first film`s Video_TS folder.
DVDAuthor will then display details of the movie, just click "next" then on the next screen click "OK" then a 3rd screen offers chapter/editing stuff, we can do that later if required, so click "OK"

* Where it says "untitled Track" it`s worth clicking on "Properties" and naming the film to save confusion later when making the menu.

* Click "Add New Track" (the blue "X", top left)

* Click "ADD DVD VIDEO" again and select your next film

* Repeat last 2 steps for your 3rd film.

Nearly there.

Note: Click on "Edit Clip" for each movie if you want to mess with chapters etc.

* Click on "Create Menu" tab, choose your fav menu and do artistic stuff.

* Click on "Output" tab, choose the place to write to, tick "create DVD folder"

* Click "begin Output"

After a while your new DVD will be created on your hard disk.

Test it out with PowerDVD (a dvd movie player ) or something similar,
checking all the menus work etc. then burn in your usual way (Nero burning ROM maybe)
to a lovely fresh DVD blank.

Go make a name for yourself as the new multi King.
But don`t blame me if you get 10 years in prison for flogging them Smile

This guide is for informational purposes only, it is illegal to mess with copyrighted works,
you should only use your own home made porno movies and send me a copy as thanks.

----------------------------------

Any input to make this guide better but not to make it more complicated is welcome.

Let me know if it works for you.

Regards
Lofty [b]

That`s gr8, glad someone benefited. It took me yonks to work it out, because no one seems to want to tell it the easy way.

Re: multi

Thanks for the input Joygirl.

Yes, sorry, I just assumed people would be using retails.

Obviously if a low quality movie like a typical TS or TC or (gasp!) a Cam
was squashed it would look even worse.

In general I would recommend not squashing non-retail for multis, doesn`t mean you won`t be able to fit 3 (or more) on a disc at 100% as quite often TS/Cam`s are about 1.4 Gig anyway.

Any squashing will result in quality loss, but if the source is of very high quality to start with then the loss is hardly noticable.

I`ll add a cut-down version of this waffle to the post, thanks once again for the constructive input.

Lofty

Re: RE MULTIS

Thanks, that was the idea, keeping it simple.

I have been trying to find the time to do the screenshots, which will make it even clearer. Hopefully by next week.

cheers

I guess using different/better software may help but these are usually quite complex for lamers like me and I would end up with less quality as I don`t understand all the weird settings you can fiddle with.
So for your average beginner the trade off off slight quality drop against a complex time consuming headache of a program (or even worse several programs, some tutors use 4 or 5 of the beasts) just aint worth it, which is exactly why I set out to find what is the easiest way using the easiest software for me, and when I found it I put it up here.

If you are really worried about quality loss then you could use just two movies per disk. You can then get near enough 100% copy of the original (2gig+ for each film would cover most movies I would guess)
But again, my aim was to fit 3 films on a disk, 2 hardly seems worth the bother.

In short you can`t have it all m8, there`s always a trade off.

good luck and thanks for the input.
