Linux network problem on an iMac

I am running Linux from a boot disc on a Mac, which I also have Windows (Bootcamp) installed on.

It runs fine, but I cannot get the internet to work on Linux. I have tried running the same boot disc (Linux) on a Windows desktop and the internet works fine on it.

Will the Mac ethernet adapter just not work with Linux?

I have no idea about Linux really.

Any help is appreciated.

Linux Kernel 2.6.19. Is that what you mean?

When I boot into Linux, the ethernet light on my modem (Virgin Media) does not light up. But when while booting, I see that it detects eth0.

I don't know, how do I find out?

It's just running off a boot CD.

Well it should be on the disc, where did you get it from?

Do you not get a splash screen when it loads up?

it's likely that the Knoppix disc you're using doesn't contain the drivers required for Apple's network hardware.

I would make sure youre using the latest 5.1.1 version of Knoppix, or I find that Ubuntu Linux runs better on the Mac platform so you may wanna go give that a try as well (latest version 8.04)
