iTrip advice

Couple of questions for you guys and girls.

Is the iTrip any good? Does anyone know what sort of reception you get from it?

If not, can you recommend a cheap car stereo with decent sound output that has Aux-In connections. (My Sony and Panasonic stereos both have Aux-In but will only accept the signal if the CD changer cable is also connected - so neither of them will work)

Alternatively, anyone know where I can get one of the iPod compatible Alpine car stereos from?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have tried and given up with iTrip's. I am now looking to getting a decent head unit with auxillary input on the front, you can then plug your ipod straight in. Alternatively the ipod ready Alpine is a tastey bit of kit: http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_details.asp?id=20186&type=3&cat=33&vehicle=402[/url]

You can get the interfaces (same as for Alpine but made for Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic etc) but they are supposed to be fairly laborious to use. Anyone have any experience of them?

Example of one on eBay is here

I bought the Alpine unit today, not being fitted until Monday when my fascia arrives. A local car audio dealer who sold it to me is going to fit it for free. Will report back on how I get on.

Yes please, that would be really good. What Alpine did you get? Let us know what you think of that too?

I got an Alpine 9847.

Just back from the fitter, took him less than 30 minutes to fit ane he demo'd it aswell. Very nice peice of kit and all functions work as said on the item description. My ipod is tucked away in the glovebox with the dock conenctor cable running to it.
