How to play ROMs on your DS/DSlite.
Since I have had my Nintendo DS lite from when they first came about. I have successfully managed to play ROMs on it thanks to the help given to me from others on this site.
I have posted on here, and through this I have had PMs asking for help and advise from others.
I am writing this so that it will help others that want to also do what I and others have done.
These are the items that I have bought and found that are successful for me.
Total cost about £70. Expensive? What would you pay for just two originals?
Max Media Launcher
SD to GBA super card adapter. These were purchased from ‘Cheapmod.com’
1gig SD card. This was purchased from ‘Ebuyer’ (I have 25 games on mine with space to spare).
ROMS. If you search the ‘Software’ on this site, there is a seller that does them. 500 ROMs on 3 DVDs about £6.00
Installation is fairly simple. The Max media launcher plugs into the rear of the DS where your normal game cart goes. (Upside down)(Slot 1)
The SD card when you have loaded the ROMs on to it slots into the SD to GBA Super card adapter, that plugs into the front of the DS (upside down) (Slot 2).
This is what I have done. I have dragged and dropped the games that I want from the DVDs to a folder. Then I unzipped them (I use Winrar but you can also use WinZip) and placed the .nds file into another folder.
When using the patching software, I just take the .nds files from here and the patching software loads the ‘game’ onto the SD card that is in the card reader attached to my PC.
When you switch on your DS the cards load and you get a list of the games that you have on your card. Select the one you want and press ‘A’ and the game will load.
Patching instructions
P.S. There is mention of another bit of kit coming soon ‘Ds Extream Flashcart’. That sounds good. But when or where and how much? _________________ Congestion charging... Before it was free.

The thing that worries me about this device is that there is absolutely no support for GBA games. Coupled with the fact that current solutions are run perfectly fine at a lot less cost i really don't see the point in this device.
Also there is a similar device already out called the Ultra FlashPass _________________ Smug Mac Owner

Not having been down that road, but I believe it does. The reason that I and others use the Max Media launcher is that it and the SD cards are cheaper. And we know it works. _________________ Congestion charging... Before it was free.

The Max media launcher goes into slot 1 where you would normaly put your game cart.
What it does is...er...??? makes the other bit work. I have never thought about it. I think it is the 'key' so that the SD card can be read. I feel sure that someone will tell us.
So the DS has two slots, one for DS games and one for old gameboy games?!?!
So I get a supercard with an SD card (which the games are loaded onto) and that goes into one slot
Then the superkey goes in the other slot and thats what makes the games work.....
If thats right then its quite simple now I know what the heck is going on.
So if I buy a DS lite do I have to get a SuperCard Lite (if I don't want the normal supercard sticking out the bottom of the DS)?
Where do firmware flashes come into this? Is that the alternative to a superkey?
I assume that none of this harms the DS or voids the warranty (except the firmware thingy)?
Cheers for answers in advance....

EDIT,
Sorry, forgot...
I assume that "rumble pak" is basically a built in feedback (vibration) system like on PS1 (and 2?) controllers. If thats the case, how come the Supercard Lite with Rumble is nearly £10 cheaper than the non rumble version?!?! _________________ Wanna help save the planet? Check out www.dontdumpthat.com
