How to claim back Bank charges?

Just been told by a friend that I am able to claim back bank charges.

Firstly, is this correct?
Secondly, what do i do to claim for this?

How far back can i claim for?

many thanks

hi

I think the best place to start for reclaiming would be The Money Saving Expert Site. They have lots of details including templates to send off to your bank.

Last I heard there was hold on calaims due to a court case, not sure if its completely resolved but seems to be going in the right direction.

Good luck!

Steven

Mines nearly finished... for my credit card... they offered me £780 as a goodwill gesture... I wrote back politely telling them to stick it and they have came back with their FINAL goodwill gesture of £3,300...

I know you can claim your charges back... but you can also claim back your charges PLUS interest.

As for the Bank accounts... they is currently court action on it so banks are not at liberty to make any sort of offer of goodwill until a ruling has been made - you can still forward in your complaint of charges, as once a ruling has been made the bank will then act accordingly.

I'm all in for charges to be fair but we're all big and ugly enough to read through the details of the contract you sign with a bank.

Everyone has to sign up to the terms and conditions laid out.

If you don't read the small print, that is your problem.

IGNORANCE is not an excuse.

Because someone out there in their infinite wisdom decided to charge £30 to send a letter out to you to tell you you'd gone over your overdraft limit or something similar.

Then a judge decided that was unfair (which I agree with). The flood gates have since been opened to every man and his dog that has ever had a charge in the past 6 years to complain.

IMHO no one forces people to spend, so why do people use and abuse credit cards.

The banking system is partially to blame by giving people credit cards and over drafts to those who really shouldn't have them.
