That sounds like the opinion of someone with little knowledge of audio visuals. Its common knowledge that a good dlp rpj will piss all over a plasma in terms of picture quality and are just as reliable

yeah ok m8 whatever
but if you read the post properly you will see that nowhere did i mention stay away from DPL
my projector is a SIM2 HT-300e Home Cinema DLP Projector PMSL
yeah i got a plasma as well
as for audio i use KEF TDM THX REFERENCE SERIES SPEAKERS
DENON AVC A1
PIONEER 717 DVD PLAYER
KIMBER D-60 digital interconect
and some cheaper monster THX approved spear cables
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A SCALED DOWN VERSION OF MY PREVIOUS HOME CINEMA
there are a few privilaged members of DW who have had the pleasure of viewing and listening to my set up

SO YES I KNOW JACK **** ABOUT AUDIO/VISUAL

just to help ya out a little
a rear projection tv uses three seperate bulbs RED GREEN BLUE
IT THEN REFLECTS THE IMAGE OFF A MIRROR TO DISPLAY IT ON THE CRAP PLASTIC SCREEN
http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/projection-tv1.htm

DLP IS A BIT MORE TECHNICAL and eats rear projection tubed tvs for dinner

so rather than type it all u can read it here

lee remember al the probs i had the the 48" sony we had ,, LOGO BURNIN,,,,,,,

bulbs replaced 3 times in 20 months ( NOT DLP ) so got my money back direct from SONY , when I served them county court papers, under the sale of goods Act ,, as "being unfit for the purpose" as a manufacturer, not informing me that they are subject to the burn in of logo's etc , @ the time of purchase

DLP I've heard is the cheapest and best for big screens and HDTV, remember Sky is going HDTV Jan next year and the next gen consoles, there's no point in wasting money on a tv that don't support it. Try and get one that supports 720i and 1080i if you can.

Sony do a nice 44' projector. The other projection TV's dont seem to be half as good as it. Probably come in at about £480, and will need new bulbs after 3000 hours so I'm told. That means 4 hours a day for 2 years before a new set of bulbs which can be around £150 ?

Thinking of getting this one myself in a week or so, so any comments from someone who knows would be welcome.

firstly , its prob min of £150 per bulb, and depends on the duty of the buld to its life

second, logo's such as sky news ,, channel idents etc burn onto the bulbs/tubes and cannot be removed,

RP TV are very cheap , as they are not popular because of the known problems,

big is not better,, save your money

I brought a sony 42"RPTV 5/6 years ago.Kids now use it for gaming and disney channel.Don't be put of with all the crap about bulbs only lasting 3000 hours, complete nuts. You could suffer from screen burn but very unlikely, kids used to have telly on 6-7 hour a day watching disney channel and other programmes with logos never had screen burn
The RPTV has been left with a stattic imagine on it for over 8 hours when one of them went out for the day leaving play station on,no screen burn at all.
For £500 a RPTV is a bargain,don't forget these where £2k 3 years ago.
Like i say i've had mine 6 years and its been on probably every day for at least 5 to 7 hours a day, maybe more.
