Help, My Escort Diesel Has Died!

Right, Ive got a p-reg escort turbo diesel, and only today on my way to a longer trip than usual i started to get a loss of power, altho managed to get to my destination. On the way back home, it started cutting out when coming to traffic lights, junctions, etc. It literally did this everytime I slowed down until it got so rediculous it wudnt even start, luckily i was only round the corner from home, i gave it one last go and luckily she got us home, just!

This sounds like a fuel problem to me, but knowing absolutely bugger all about diesels and not a great deal of knowledge of cars, i need some advice on what this could be or if anyones had similar problems?

Cheers.

Sounds like contaminated fuel.

I know its obvious but you didnt put petrol in your deisel did you ?

I did this and I gradually lost power until eventually it wouldnt work at all.

I havent no, but maybe the previous owner did, in fact that could well be a likely cause, what would i do if this was the case, or is it bascially as good as scrap metal now?

Also, if this did happen, surely the car wouldnt start and run ok for short distances, wouldnt it have caused too much damage to run it at all?

sounds like its definitely fuel related.
if the tank as had petrol put in it, depending on how much was put in you will need to drain the complete fuel system, i.e tank, injectors etc.

good luck.
