Would recommend doing the pool & theory part of the course in the UK & then doing the open water dives when you get on holiday. My wife & I did the full course when we were in Kenya but it's a lot of work & really cuts into your holiday.
With regard to Egypt, We've dived in Hurgarda & wasn't really to impressed. The dive outfit crowded the boats & there weren't enough divemasters for the amount of people in the water. Also a lot of different boats at each site & the clincher was that they were encouraging people who were only novices to try dives that were too deep for their qualifications. One guy had just finished his OW course & they took him down to 30 metres.
Having said that, I've heard good things about Sharm el Sheik but really it's down to who you dive with.
Hope this helps,
Chris F

just saw your diving post...

I heard Sharm el Sheik is really good, but i cant imagine anywhere better than Grand Cayman fo rdiving. The Schools over there take pride in the reefs, unlike a lot of other islands and countries which pretend that they do. The schools here are probably some of the best in the world as the will center alot in bouancy in order tyo help you stay off the ground and touching coral, etc.

Any questions feel free to ask, i would agree with "cpf", do the theory in UK, this will get you diving quicker and wastes less time on holiday!

Good luck

Catch ya

Steve
