Cuba , tell me about it.

Has anyone been to Cuba.
Lookin for first hand hints and tips.
Don't just want to lie in a beach resort.
All info welcome.
Thank you in advance.

been to cuba twice and going again in oct. great place, great people. I went to a pretty secluded quiet area and spent most time on beach/pool area, but there are loads of trips you can do. For somewhere a bit busier than I went, probably guardalavaca or varadero are your best bets if you want an all inclusive deal. Other than that you could go down the casa familia route if you are going on your own and want to see a bit of cuba.

I was thinking of going to see alot of the Hemingway stuff for 3-4 days .
Then maybe doing the beach thing for the rest, quiet preferred.
I read somewhere you can't take electronic stuff in , does that include ipods, cameras etc.
Any other top tips would be welcome Lonegun.
Thanks for replying also, post been up a while.

fine to take ipods, cameras, video cameras,
you couldnt take laptops in last time i went although that may have changed since raul castro took over the running.
I Would recommend going up to the cayos to stay if you want quiet.
Cayo Guillermo where I went is the part of cuba hemingway lived, and where he wrote islands in the stream. You could always hire a car and go off for a few days to do the other bits.

its worth taking a fair bit of money for tips. standard tip is 1 cuban tourist peso for a drink, i used to tip once every 3-4 rounds.
cheap bic razors worth taking to give out to gardeners, colouring pencils for kids.
do a search for happy faces forum, get loads of info about cuba there,
