Best way to take money out in USA

Hi all,

off to Vegas in a few weeks, never been to the US before and I was wondering if its best to take traveller's cheques or get a new debit card to get cash out. I have a Visa CC but dont really want to be taking cash out on that

Thanks,

Vaughny

Join Nationwide

My daughter has been in Camp America for last couple of months. Just before she went I advised her to open a Nationwide Account. She has been using her Nationwide Card for 2 months now, and have have been keeping an eye on her transactions on line. really impressed. No charges at all for using the card and most transactions have been at around the 1.99 / 1.98 mark. Much better rate than what you get if you buy dollars and take them out.

Ive been to Vegas a few times, usually take some dollars currency for incidentals such as the strip bus and taxis. Use a card for everything else. Wouldnt bother with travellers cheques.

I always use the Nationwide card as well because of not charging for every overseas transaction. Just remember that whichever card you take, phone them up before you go and tell them where you are going and the dates, otherwise they will probably decline your card after a few transactions because of unusual activity on the account. I would also take a good sized chunk of dollars with me, especially $1s as you will be expected to start tipping as soon as you get out of the airport.

i second the nationwide account. If you are charged anything it will be from the atm machine (like the ones u get here which charged 1.75 or something) not from nationwide

cash

agree with the guys about nationwide banking best there is been to numerous contries and never a problem
but another option is just to stick the money onto credit card
i recently did it this way overpaid about a grand and just worked it off either hole in wall or using it
be carefull paying for meals and the like using cards as one of my mates had his copyied at cafe so keep an eye on it when they take it away
normal atm machines charge a percentage depending on location the more they charge
dont bother with cheques they a pain in butt
but carry a couple hundred dollars cash for travelling and tipping (10-20%)
hope it helps
