Gotta be XP for me (professional), i hate 2000 with a passion. It could be 98se for me but as it dont support NTFS thats out of the question.

I can see a lot of votes for XP Very Happy

Not that OS is even an issue (NTFS issue aside)

I would be more concerned with which writer/media combination i was using.

I have copied DVD-R/CD-R on all of my partitions (XP, Win 9X, 2000 and Linux 9) I don't understand what your point is!! Very Happy (no offense)

no offence taken the point was that another user was preaching that ME was far better for burning DVD's as he claims FAT is much better faster and more stable than NTFS. Burner and sofware asside assume everyone is using Pionner 105 (no offence SP4M as I know ud prefer the sony Smile ) with say Nero 5.5.10.35

Fat doesn't support file sizes greater than 4gig so yer mate is talking out of his.. anyway don't think it's gonna make much of a difference as long as it's the NTFS file system...

No one said that you cant burn dvd's over 4 gig,It's actual single files with a size of over 4 gig that fat 32 cannot handle.

with fat 32 if you have a ps2 image of say 4.3GB, the file gets split in 2.

So no big deal there really.

I use Windows XP Professional but I have to say that there is no operating system I prefer. They pretty much all suck. Each having their own pros and cons.

I don't think operating system is really all that relevant to the success of dvd writing. Much more imortant things are the cables you use, your system configuration, (ie. never put a pioneer 105 as slave to a hard drive... trust me,) your hard drive buffer size, the software you use...

All in all, OS is not that relevant.

yes you can burn images with fat32.

the file just gets split in 2 when it is stored on your hard drive. but the writing software burns it as if it were just one big file.

so it's not really an issue.

XP is fine, it will be one or more of your hardware components which is ill configured or is using unstable older drivers.

sp4m... m8 u may be right..... but trying to reslove the problem.... eats into a lot of time... and like u say it could be any number of drivers... it could be any one of the 8 hard disks... or ne 1 the 4 raid cards.... or even ne 1 of the 5 burners.... it could be ne thing...... so i've just gone back to, wot works best for me......

my theory is that, the system, under xp just gets too hot....... but who knows............

my theory is that maybe you should buy a new case or two and perhaps split your system up into a couple or more systems
