Hiya folks, I am looking into getting a new printer with a CISS system that prints on Discs. I am currently looking between these two:
Epson R285 Printer with CISS System fitted @£80
Canon Pixma IP4300 Printer and fitting the system myself @£70
I know on the Epson system you have to lift all the ink cartridges out once they become empty and reseat them and on the Canon System you have to fit an original chip onto each of the systems cartridges.
So what would you guys recommend as being the best system of those two or should I be looking at getting something completely different. Any thoughts/recommendations very much welcome as I have never dabbled in this before.
cheers

Huh ? I don't have to do that - I fitted my CISS and occasionally I have to turn the printer off and then on again to reset the ink light (I only have the R220). I have one of the newer CISSs though which is all one unit (no slotting tanks onto a base, which can get interesting lol).
You don't let a CISS empty completely - always refill when level(s) get to 2cm (or before). Have to say it's not the highlight of my month refilling it.
My Epson R220 with CISS has done me proud I have to say. Have had printer nearly 3 years and the newer CISS around 6 months or more (older version I had nearly a year before it went tits up and big pockets replaced it with this newer one) it's not half taken a hammering. I do a LOT of printing. I do have to admit to a fair few occasions with the old CISS where I had to leave the room or I would have lobbed it across the room in frustration. There is always someone online though that knows a fix for epsons.
I do have friends that swear by the Canons though too. I have stuck with epsons because of the CISS (can't see me ever going back to cartridges) and wasn't aware that there is a CISS for any of the Canons so maybe when my R220 gives up the ghost I may give cannon more of a thought. _________________ Any purchases are made on the grounds that I own the original.
go with the tried and tested m8 epson got a 360 with a ciss excellent combo.
ps also got 2 brand new cannons in attic where you get the ciss for them be interested in giving it a bash _________________ "Any backups supplied to you are on the understanding that you own the original copy, if you do not, then you must destroy the backup copy within 24hrs as a sample copy"

Ok thanks for all that, have decided that maybe the Epson is the better bet. I think the Canon is a better printer but a bit of a bummer to set the CISS system up - seemingly you have to glue the original chip from the cartridge onto the CISS system. _________________ Any Backup Bought/Sold Purely For Evaluation Purposes and MUST BE DESTROYED within 24 hrs unless I/You own the original.
I have Epson R360 and works a treat for printing disks _________________ Any backups supplied to/by me are done so on the understanding I/you own the original or they must be destroyed in 24 hours.
canon the better printer but you can easily burn out the print heads with a cis, go with the epson unless disc printing speed is the major factor.
i really hate waiting for the epsons to print a disc so slow
yeah I have the r360 with a ciss, been using it a long time and no issues with it _________________ "Any backups supplied to you by us are supplied on the understanding that you own the original copy, if you do not, then you must destroy the backup copy as supplied within 24hrs as a sample copy"

I have an r360 with CISS (that resets itself) never any problems had to go to a express repair centre to have the counters reset after 6 months but it was under warranty so i just took the ciss off and they did it for free (thats the only downfall the Epson reset utility doesnt work on this model) but just to add the guy said to me using it can really knacker your printer , dont know if he was just sayin that !! make sure you get the v2 ciss (for any model R360 if you do decide to get one. _________________ I dont sell backups but if I buy them i destroy them within 24 Hours
Just got myself an R285 from PC World for £49.99, and a pre-filled CISS from Feebay for £24.50 delivered.
Apart from snapping off the cartridge cover hinge through cack-handedness, fitting was dead straightforward.
Print quality is just as good as original ink in my opinion. Glad I did it
If I had to do it over again, I'd....
o Take more care removing the hinge block.
o Not use the self adhesive tabs on the tube supports. I'd use a hot glue gun instead. Don't fancy the prospect of getting it off cleanly should it have to go in for repair. _________________ ---------
