banging water pipes

banging water pipes

help
my water is fed from the mains to a combi boiler system, and everytime the tap or the washing m/c turn off the water you can hear the bang around the whole of the house.
How can i stop this please .

pipes should not be next to anything or loose enough to bang.
there are plastic brackets you can get from you local plumb centre that screw into the wall and hold the pipe in place
you need to hunt the offending pipe down and securely fix it

I'm no plumber, had the same problem, its called a "water hammer" or water knock, google it, think its down to air in the system or air trapped in a valve somewhere

water pressure could be too high for appliances and everytime they shut off it cause the banging noise i would also check if there are clips on all pipework where possible as could cause pipes banging from not being clipped etc

An old plumbers trick to get rid of pipe knock is to reduce the water supply by shutting the water supply tap a little. Do it it a little bit at a time until the knocking just stops.
