Artex

Hi all,

I have artex in my bathroom and want to get rid of it. Has anyone got any ideas about the easiest way of removing.

Cheers

how long has it been there??

if it is old, they use to mix asbestos with artex. you should be able to scrape it off

to ensue no asbestos particles are inhaled wear a mask (pp3) sell them in build centre or places like that

also dampen down the are with a water sprayer,

last year only licensed contractors could legaly remove artex but now the regs have changed

Yeah, what ever you do don't sand it.

Steaming it off is one way but it's a nasty messy old job and can damage whatever is beneath it if you get carried away.

Bite the bullet and use something like X-tex to paint on but it isn't cheap

I've been told to soak the Artex with wallpaper paste and it'll scape off.
Apparently, as it doesn't dry as quick as water, it does the job a treat.

Then again, I haven't tried it yet ... Confused

What I done downstairs when I was bored of the Artex on my ceiling was use a garden Hoe and scrape it flattish, I then got an Aretxer in and skimmed over the top flush......Looks a great job

scrape surface paint off first,i used an old hand plane on walls, but a hoe or floor scraper sounds handy for ceilings, then as mentioned use wallpaper paste, let it absorb for a while ,then simply scrape off,an old painter told me this years ago, have tried it and it does work, but be aware of dust ,dampen with more paste more if needed.
