A Serious Question

What it is, is I have a cat but not currently living with me, he lives at my mums (the big fat tom cat i told you about hehe) and I am keeping him there as to not disturb him as he is settled there.

I would like to get myself a kitten, but the only problem is kittens and a 9 month old son, would that work? as we all know what kittens are like and what babies can be like Smile

Asked a few people e.g. family, friends etc but still not sure

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thankyou

Nikki xx

Thats what i thought as you know what babies are like with things that move, see it and grab and with a kitten being around kittens can be viscious at times or even think your playing and you always get scrated or bitten when there playing

If anyone else can help please feel free to post

Thanks.

TBH

the kitten will want to play as the child is small, but @ 9 months babe will want to grab and pull, cat will play to start with, but will defend itself,

i would say wait to the babe's old enough to learn the cat is not a toy

Kittens

I wouldn't really like to express an opinion as a small baby's welfare has to be Paramount.
However when I was a baby my parents were cat mad, I think we had 8 when I was born.
And their rule of thumb was for me and my sisters, that they never introduced a kitten into the 'family' in the 9 months before we were born. Or the 12 months after.
Their reasoning was that once the cat/kitten was established it would feel threatened by a new family addition and probably lash out, and also as they get older they tend to be more tolerant. Probably due to the fact that they spend most of their time outside or sleeping.
Also if they join the household after the baby is born and a reasonable size, they accept a lower position in the household 'ranking' if that makes any sense.
I don't know how much reality there is in that, but we were never mauled by a pack of marauding kit-e-kats so my parents might have at least got one thing right.

i got a kitten when my son was 10 months old,,,,but i got an older kitten about 4months old,he wasn't as small as the furball babbies..(lol)..as cute as they are..and because he had slighter longer legs,he could jump up.or run away easier....and it worked....
